Auditorium Capital Campaign

The Manning School of Academics and Arts, while formed in 2001, is housed in a building that was constructed over 60 years ago in 1958.  Our school currently serves 675 students and their families, and at the heart of our school is the auditorium. Not only do we gather in the auditorium for concerts, plays and musicals (over 80% of our students participate in band, orchestra, choir and musical theater!), the space is used by all students for enrichment programs, assemblies and other school events.

Between now and May 2021, we are seeking to raise $100,000 to replace the current seating over the summer of 2021 with new, more comfortable seats.  We invite you to be a part of this effort which will give our school community an inviting performance and assembly space!

Over the next several months we will offer various opportunities to contribute to this campaign, but you can get a head start by sponsoring a chair or purchasing a commemorative brick at early-bird pricing.  Use the link at the bottom of the page to secure your chairs and bricks today!

  • Chair sponsorship will be $350 through the end of the 2019-2020 school year and will include an engraved plate on the back of an auditorium chair.  Full details on engraving will be available in Spring 2020.  
  • Commemorative bricks are $50 each and will include a variety of engraving options.  Full details for bricks will also be available in Spring 2020.

FAQ’s

Didn’t Jefferson County voters just pass a bond for facility improvements?

Yes, and we’re very excited and grateful to be adding an additional wing consisting of 5 classrooms that will replace the cottages and 1 additional classroom. Unfortunately, our allocated bond dollars will barely cover the costs of the new addition. Improvements to the existing structures, including our auditorium, are not in the budget.

What is special about the Spring 2021 timeframe?

We would like to take advantage of the construction crew that will be onsite over the summer of 2021. As you can imagine, the district construction team will be extremely busy over the foreseeable future working on improvements that are part of the bond initiative. We are concerned if this project doesn’t happen while the crew is onsite it will be many years before we can schedule the auditorium improvements and that project costs will only increase over time.

Will all money raised by the PTA go towards the new auditorium chairs?

It depends. We will continue to budget for recurring PTA expenses, like teacher wish-list items, enrichment programs and teacher appreciation events. There will, however, be specific fundraisers that 100% of the proceeds will go towards the new chairs. An example of this would be the sponsorship of an auditorium chair or the purchase of commemorative brick.

What if PTA is unable to raise all the money needed to replace the chairs, or what if PTA raises more money than needed?

If we raise more money than needed, we would be able to support other auditorium related projects, such as updating the lighting or sound systems, or use the funds for other school projects.  

If we are unable to raise sufficient funds by the end of the 2020-2021 school year, the school may be able to cover some of the costs, or we may have to delay the project.  It’s hard to say today if the school will have funds in its budget to contribute.

How will we know how much money PTA has raised for the auditorium?

We will be updating this page from time to time, as well as sharing the information during PTA meetings and other Manning events.  You can also expect to see something posted at school to mark our progress.

If I sponsor a chair, will it be reserved for my use?

No.  While we appreciate your generosity and contributions to this campaign, the chairs will be available for use by all students, their families and the community.
